A New Variety for Lentedal – Meet our 2019 Pinot Gris

A white wine made from grey-purple grapes – Pinot Gris is the latest wine to join the Lentedal family.

With only 15 rows of our vineyard dedicated to this variety, our 2019 Pinot Gris is certainly a small-batch. We planted these vines four years ago and having previously sold the fruit, we’re excited to finally make our own Pinot Gris!

Originating from France and Italy, Pinot Gris is related to the other pinot variations; Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. It’s an early ripening variety and is the first to be picked at Lentedal, followed closely by our Chardonnay grapes.

Following hand-harvest, the pinot gris grapes are transported straight from the vineyard to the winery, where the grapes are whole bunch pressed and the juice is pumped into seasoned oak barriques for a period of 4 months to undergo natural fermentation. The dominant flavour profiles coming through are melon and honeysuckle.

This isn’t a wine variety that is frequently seen in the Margaret River region, which is exciting in itself! We love experimenting with alternate varieties and if our Nebbiolo, Moscato and Tempranillo are anything to go by, we know you’ll love our Pinot Gris!

Our 2019 Pinot Gris is available for purchase via our website, or you can prearrange to collect it from our vineyard. Our cellar door and café will open in late summer 2019!
