The South West has long been a family favourite destination, with plenty to do for all ages.
Parents can easily seek out family friendly wineries and cellar doors, whilst the kids are kept entertained, well fed and happy. So, whether you’re staying in Margaret River, Dunsborough, Busselton or the surrounds – the stunning South West region is bound to have you covered for a wonderful family holiday.
Here is a roundup of our family favourites in the South West.
Kick off with a delicious breakfast, coffee & a playground
Head to beautiful Yallingup, where you can pick up some of the best croissants, quiches and pastries on offer at the family owned Gugelhupf Bakery (18 Yallingup Beach Rd). You can’t miss the fun pink, white and blue building and you seriously won’t go wrong with anything you order – although our favourite go to are the chocolate croissants! It’s made on site with the best local ingredients.
With all your baked goods in hand, hop back in the car and head down to Yallingup Beach which is a short 2 minute drive. With its perfect lawns, picturesque views of the surf and epic playground, it’s a wonderful spot to pull up a picnic rug to enjoy those pastries. For the coffee lovers, walk across the carpark to Lagoon for a seriously awesome takeaway coffee.
It’s a Short Walk for Wildflowers
There are a number of short walks in the Yallingup area to go on the hunt for wildflowers (between September to November) which cater for all levels – even if you’re only up for a short walk with the kids.
The 4km long Quenda Trail is our pick, with ample wildflowers and sensational coastal views. You can get all the information you need about this walk via the Trail WA website, as well as other suitable walks in the area.
Enjoy lunch at the little vineyard with the big heart
Once you’ve worked up an appetite, we invite you to visit us at our cellar door – a short drive from Yallingup – we’ve got you and the kids covered!
We’re a small family run cellar door, with expansive lawns, the friendliest farm animals (Kevin the Pig has quite the following amongst our regulars), games, colouring-in and amazing woodfired pizzas to keep hungry tummies happy!
The Lentedal experience is all about a family experience – designed as a place where parents can kick back and enjoy a wine tasting and lunch, while the kids have a ball of their own!
One last stop – Ngilgi Cave
Close to Dunsborough and Busselton, you’ll find Ngilgi Cave at 76 Yallingup Caves Road – a truly perfect adventure for kids and parents! This cave was Western Australia’s first tourist attraction and is packed with incredible stalactites, stalagmites, helictites and beautifully coloured shawls. There’s a crawl tunnel at the entrance, which is always a winner with the kids, and a one-hour Semi-Guided Show Cave Tour. The tour starts in a beautiful section of the cave called ‘The Amphitheatre’ where your Cave Guide provides an introductory talk, after which you explore at your own pace. Ngilgi Cave is very well set up with plenty of information boards and another guide waiting in the heart of the cave to answer your questions.
Head on over to the Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association website for more information on this stunning region and ample more family friendly activities and venues to visit.
